Excellent Mower
Purchased this mower in 2007 when they were on sale at HomeDepot, but never used it until this year. Reason? Our previous Lawn Boy started to violently vibrate so we bought this one. However, found out that the engine mounting bolts on the old one only needed tightening. So the new one sat in the garage until the old one began to sputter, smoke, and stop this week. Brought out the new Sens-A-Speed, poured in the oil, filled the gas, and adjusted the mowing height. Prefer to mulch rather than bag, so made sure the mulching plug was securely in place. Primed 5 times and pulled the recoil start handle - instant start the first time. Just completed mowing both the whole back yard and the front yard without incident. Worked absolutely beautifully. The Sens-A-Speed is remarkable. Barely touch and it moves. Walk faster and it moves faster. Really an outstanding feature!! This model Lawn Boy is the best lawn mower we have ever used. Highly recommend. BTW-1: we prefer using a Panduit releasable cable tie on the blade control bar so we don't have to restart when having to leave the mower to clear the way or whatever. And according to Martha: "that's a good thing". BTW-2: we only have used Castrol Heavy-Duty straight 30W oil on both mowers (excellent choice). All in all, this is a very well engineered product that does the job. Makes lawn mowing fun!

2 years of life
The title is self-explanatory. Bought it, loved it, then after two years this March, it died. Spark plug, oil, and air filter seem fine. Right now, deciding whether to take it somewhere, or buy a new one. Seems like it should've lasted longer for the price...

Generally Great - but 6.5 HP? I think not!
The mower has a definite advantage set. It is EXTREMELY easy to control and provides wonderful maneuverability. It stores well and is actually fairly efficient with its fuel consumption. Easy maintenance for oil, filter and spark plugs. They definitely created this mower with the general consumer in mind and I recommend it for small lawns; unless...

The 10685 has a distinct disadvantage on healthy, fast-growing lawns: the 6.5 HP doesn't live up to comparable Honda 120cc through 190cc mowers, especially when mulching. Frequently, when a lawn grows and inch to two inches above where you normally mow (saw it rains for a week or more without a break) you will find that it is simply just too much for the mower to handle regardless of how slow you go.

I loved the mower until I moved to a new residence and had a level, much healthier lawn that I had before. Too frequently the mower has wound up just not providing the power I need. I would still recommend it for people, however, you must keep in mind the frequency of your mowing and the general growth state of your lawn.
